About JEAN Capital

Our Origin Story.

At the heart of JEAN Capital is Ben Sharpe, a committed entrepreneur and self-proclaimed geek, whose fascination with technology and business has spanned over two decades. An Electrical Engineer by training, Ben honed his business acumen selling HVAC control systems while juggling the creation of several technology ventures during his spare time.

In 2008, Ben founded Call Control, a software platform designed to fight against the onslaught of illegal robocalls. Grown purely from ground up, Call Control now boasts over 5 million customers and has evolved into a versatile technology solution, helping both consumers through its mobile apps and businesses via customized solutions. The platform's innovative nature has also earned it multiple patents.

As a lifelong gamer, Ben couldn't resist the urge to blend his passion for gaming with business. He led the Kedlin Entertainment team to develop Airport Scanner, a game that climbed to the #1 spot on the App Store in 2011. The game, along with its sequel, Airport Scanner 2, has been enjoyed by over 10 million users worldwide.

When Dr. Stephen Mitroff, then a Professor at Duke University, reached out to use the data from Airport Scanner for academic research, a productive partnership was formed. This collaboration led to several published papers and a dedicated research lab at the George Washington University, focusing on human factors research using data from Airport Scanner.

Ben then joined forces with Dr. Mitroff to co-found Kedlin Screening International (KSI). Together, they aimed to commercialize the technology from the research environment for the aviation industry. KSI successfully completed two contracts with the Transportation Security Administration, demonstrating their technology's efficacy in predicting baggage screener performance.

Parallel to these pursuits, Ben took on the mantle of CEO at RET Physical Therapy Group, a chain of outpatient physical therapy clinics in the Seattle area. Under his stewardship, the business grew from a ten-location practice generating ~$5M revenue to a 40-location operation with over $25M revenue.  The company was sold to Confluent Health in 2018.

Ben founded JEAN Capital with a mission to invest in companies led by exceptional people with a vision to make a real difference. While its investment strategy has a strong bias towards technology-based businesses, JEAN Capital's portfolio includes diverse sectors like healthcare, manufacturing, communications, crypto, and blockchain.

JEAN Capital welcomes entrepreneurs seeking early-stage investment and practical advice based on real-world experience in building and managing businesses. If you're an entrepreneur who wants to make a meaningful impact, Ben Sharpe and JEAN Capital are ready to listen and help bring your vision to life.
